Tainted mana, also called dark mana, is a form of mana found primarily within the Abyss. Channeling tainted mana is extremely painful and dangerous for most people, and is the means by which a mage can become a demon. Demons, whose souls are attuned to dark mana, have no problems with channeling it, however.
