Elkandu

Elkandu are the powerful mages around whom the bulk of the action in the Elkandu Universe takes place.

The precise definition of an Elkandu is open for debate. The adage "If you know you're an Elkandu, you probably are one" typically applies. In general, however, an Elkandu tends to be defined as an immortal mage with multiple talents, who travels to different worlds, and knows that they will be reborn upon death. Even these have exceptions who are still clearly Elkandu, however.

Most Elkandu exhibit the following characteristics that set them apart from mensch and mibis:

• Immortality. Elkandu generally do not age once they reach a certain point, and can typically control their apparent age with Time or Change magic. Most Elkandu prefer to appear to be between 18 and 30 (in human years).
• Talents. If an Elkandu has a single talent, they will generally be very strong with that talent. Most Elkandu have three or more talents, usually Motion and Seeking included for convenience.
• Travelling. Even if they do not frequently move around a lot, all Elkandu at least know that other worlds exist and that they can go there if they wanted to.
• Rebirth. Although many Elkandu are on their first life or do not remember their past lives (though choice or circumstance), they are, for the most part, absolutely certain that when they die, they will come back, with or without memory of this life.
