Channeling is the act of drawing mana from the Ethereal Plane to use as magic for a spell or effect.
Although often considered the bailiwick of Catalysm, anyone with a soul is capable of channeling with training, even mensch. Most inborn mages are born knowing how to channel without ever having to give it a second thought.
Channeling can sometimes be dangerous for an inexperienced mage. Trying to draw in too much at once can result in mana burn or worse. Smaller amounts of undirected mana tend to dissipate harmlessly. Channeling tainted mana can also be a very bad idea for a non-demon to attempt.
