Abyss

The Abyss is a series of dark caverns around an enormous pit inhabited by a wide variety of demons. It is flooded with tainted mana, making it a dangerous place to enter for outsiders even ignoring the number of demons that dwell within.

The Abyss has, at various points, been either its own plane, a subplane, alternate dimension, or ethereal world. It currently exists as a region of the Ethereal Plane.

Prior to the Rogue Winds era, the Abyss was a separate, unconnected world, and part of the realms of Hell. However, an insane wizard in Stygia opened a portal to the Abyss. Backlash from the spell caused everyone within the city to be trapped in a state of undeath.

During the Planar Wars, the boundaries between the worlds collapsed, and the Abyss merged with Mezulbryst. Many features that had been within the realms of Hell now lay upon the surface of the Plane of Shadow instead.

In the years leading up to the War of Planar Dominance, the demons from the Abyss waged war upon the drow of southern Mezulbryst. However, when the drow begged her for assistance in this losing battle, Keolah moved the Abyss to Daresa where she hoped it wouldn't bother anyone for a while.

Then Ishane crashed Suzcecoz's spaceship into the Abyss. A wish by Lakisval later restored the devastated Abyss to its former glory as its own independent world.

During the War of the Interdimensional Bridge, the demons of the Abyss became upset by the strengthening of the veil, and moved their world entirely into the Ethereal Plane.
